2007 Event information:

The Environmental Field Days is an annual program for sixth grade students in Onondaga County, sponsored by the Onondaga County SWCD and the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.  Typically, the EFD takes place in early October at Green Lakes State Park.  The goal of the Field Days is to educate students about the interrelationships among the physical (soil, water, air) and the biological (producers, consumers, and decomposers) components of the environment and how we can be better stewards of our environment on both a local and global level.  At this year's event, over 1,400 local students participated. Volunteers from the Onondaga County SWCD, as well as many other local and state agencies, teach 20 minutes sessions to students on topics ranging from ecosystems and recycling to tree identification and soil erosion. Students are exposed to a variety of career options in the physical and biological sciences through their interactions with the presenters at the EFD.  If you would like to volunteer to be a presenter, or if your school group is interested in participating please e-mail info@ocswcd.org or call 315-677-3851.  Thank you to all those who helped make this years field day a success!
